If you're like most families then your kitchen is a primary gathering place within your home. Between its function and the warmth of its space, the kitchen throughout history, has been a place for family and guests alike to come together and work, talk and most importantly, eat. Although the technological aspects of the kitchen have dramatically changed in a rather short period of time – it has still maintained its primal importance in all homes.

We know the importance of kitchens, and so do you – which is why we have developed an ideabook to inform you about the latest and greatest kitchen technology today! Kitchen technology isn't just about multifunctional appliances and 'smart' cooking utensils – it includes a plethora of products that will affect almost every aspect of your kitchen – from proper food storage, to lighting fixtures and possibly a robotic future?!

Browse below and see ways in which you can catch your kitchen up with the times – no matter what your budget, or space!

Double Refrigerator

Purchasing a double refrigerator will definitely depend on the space you have available! However, there are definitely more advantages than disadvantages! A double-door refrigerator will provide double, if not triple the capacity that a regular refrigerator would – and especially consider double-door refrigerators that have various, smaller compartments for proper food and produce storage.

Most homeowners assume that due to their larger size that double refrigerators will cost more money on monthly energy – however, this is not true. Due to the fact that most double refrigerators have a separate compartment for the freezer that you only open when you need it – energy costs can actually be quite lower! When purchasing any appliances make sure to consider the most important things – capacity, energy ratings, defrost settings and the versatility.

To show just how much room you should consider for a double-door refrigerator – look at this example, too!

Microwave Oven

As with any appliance, there are several factors to consider when purchasing a microwave oven.  First, think about how much space you will be willing to give up! The average size is around 1.5 cubic feet – and this is a great size if you tend to heat up larger dishes to feed your family. If you're running short on space, there are some as small as .5 cubic feet for heating up smaller items on an individual basis.

Technologically speaking, make a check-list for must-have items like large buttons and readable icons, defrost settings and pre-programmed settings, a turntable and a shelving feature.  Nowadays, most of these must-haves will be included on most microwave ovens, so even if one of these is missing – move on! Some other features to consider are child-proof microwaves that have an automatic lock feature for both the buttons and the door – and for something more accessible and multifunctional, consider newer microwaves with built-in convection ovens and coffee pots!

Light Fixtures

Make sure to keep kitchen light fixtures above the kitchen, from the ceiling – as not to take any countertop space and storage space away! It is easy to forget that light fixtures can be a central design feature in such a functional space like a kitchen!

To add some high-tech fixtures to your kitchen – think about lights that dim on a wide range to set the mood for each occasion.  Typically, it's better to have brighter lights while you're cooking and organizing meals (this can be a safety feature too!) and for evenings when you're entertaining guests or planning a romantic dinner, you'll want it a bit darker.

Currently, there is a wide variety of kitchen lights that function dually as normal lights and then have UV settings – these are perfect if you like plants and especially herb gardens in your kitchen to keep things fresh year round!

For an example with smaller, but great light fixtures, check out the E2 Kitchen!

Utensils

The point of high-tech kitchen utensils – just like any other modern gadgets – is to make your life easier and more efficient.  When thinking about high-tech utensils for your kitchen, think about what you will use most.  Are you always carrying your laptop or tablet into the kitchen to follow recipes? Then consider an under-cabinet holder that will properly hold your electronics to make sure they don't get wet or dry ingredients on them! Or are you always struggling with cutting fruits and vegetables quickly and effectively without making too much of a countertop mess? Think about smart kitchen gadgets to help you cut fruits and vegetables!

A great product to consider for those of you low on kitchen or countertop space, are individual stove tops that are electric and hook onto the wall! These are easy to clean, heat up quickly and are removable so you can boil water or simmer that perfect pasta sauce anywhere you have available wall space!

Here is a similar example of how to properly and effectively store utensils and food!

New Electronics

It seems like new kitchen electronics are coming out nearly every week! We have some ideas for you to consider!

As mentioned before – we love the idea of individual stove tops that hook into the wall and only require basic electric hook-ups!  However, make sure you have these basic appliances before moving onto the special items : coffee pot, espresso maker, blender, juicer, microwave oven, convection oven (for proper baking) and a mixer.  These basic electronics will cover most, if not all, cooking, baking and especially health basics!

For extended items, think about food processors for perfect pesto and hummus – as well as vegetables presses and for something smaller and inexpensive, think about a stainless steel finger-guard if you tend to cut up a lot of fruits, vegetables and herbs! A high-tech kitchen doesn't always have to mean breaking the bank!

Are Robots the Future?

A common question these days is, are kitchen robots the future of home cooking? Well, we definitely are not sure and probably, neither are you. Even with all of the above mentioned items, most homeowners still prefer the age-old, tried and true methods of cooking by hand, with friends and family members – and we understand why.

We simply hope that our suggestions could be something fun for you and your family to consider to ease up on time constraints, as well as effort after long days of work!
