Before and After: Stunning Victorian town house refurbishment

The property we're lucky enough to take a tour around today is a late-Victorian, regency-style town house entitled 'Seascape House'. As you might have guessed, the house is located on the English coast: Margate, to be exact, and it enjoys spectacular views out to the sparkling waters and sweeping landscape of the beach. However, before the refurbishment was undertaken, the interiors weren't doing this home any favours: the kitchen was drab and dated, and every room was in need of modernisation. That's where MillChris Developments stepped in with their architectural knowledge and expertise. Now, not only are the interiors looking incredible, but the whole house also benefits from state of the art German central heating and hot water system which maintains a constant temperate indoors, as well as media cabling for a SmartTV, and a spectacular sauna and wetroom. Not only that, but the professionals at MillChris Developments have added a new conservatory with a decked area to the rear of the home. Intrigued to discover more? Let's take a closer look..

The façade

We start this tour with an image that shows the main façade post refurbishment. The original charm and character of this Victorian terrace has been maintained, and the repair work undertaken to the street-facing exterior was all cosmetic. The house is a typical sea-side home, particularly to this area of Kent, which boasts a beautiful sprawling coast that can be fully appreciated from the balcony on the first floor. The new interiors, as you will soon see, are equally as stunning as the coastal views…

Before & after: The rear façade

These two contrasting images show you the extent of the work undertaken to modernise the rear exterior of the property. Now, both the house and the garden are looking fresh and modern. Previously, the garden was overgrown with weeds, with only a courtyard area that was looking a little miserable. Thanks to MillChris Developments Limited the outdoor area is now one the whole family can enjoy this summer.

Behind the neat Victorian exterior, you will find 4 double bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a home gym, home cinema, and a sauna, just to name a few!

Before & after: The kitchen

These images give us more of an idea of the dramatic difference between the old interior and the new. The original kitchen was traditional, with a Tudor inspired design that incorporated lots of dark timber, brown tones, and heavy detailing. It was an unusual choice, specific to the tastes of the previous occupants, and the new occupants decided on a complete renovation and modernisation, as you can see.

Now,  the space looks much lighter and spacious than before. A large skylight has opened up the ceiling, allowing floods of natural light to illuminate every inch of the space. The bi-fold doors, which are also a new addition, give access to a private garden area.

After: The kitchen

The bespoke kitchen was made to measure and fitted by Krieder. It boasts quartz worktops, an island in Carrara marble and a variety of state of the art appliances from Siemens, including: a coffee maker, 2 refrigerators, an ice maker, a steam oven, an electric oven and an induction hob. The pale timber floorboards paired with white walls and white cabinets lends the room a Scandinavian vibe, which is currently bang on trend. This kitchen enjoys the best of both worlds, being not only extremely practical and well-equipped, but also ultra stylish.

After: The living room

The large bay windows are a key feature to the kerb appeal of this home, and they also frame a spectacular view of the sea, all the way out to the distant horizon. Throughout the property, new double-glazed sliding sash windows have been installed, which are pressure treated and have a Marine Paint finish system. The cornices and ceiling roses that you can see here have been recast from the original pieces and have been replaced, not just in here, but in every room in the house.

After: The bathroom

The house has been fitted with top quality luxury sanitary-ware from the likes of Roca, Grohe, Vado, Duravit and Ideal Standard. Quality radiates from every surface of this indulgent but tasteful design, which utilises natural light and incorporates earthy tones and materials for a relaxing and peaceful effect. The bath is the crowning glory, with its unique charcoal grey surface and industrial inspired fittings. This is definitely the perfect place to unwind after a long and stressful day.

After: The sauna & wetroom

As you might expect from a house of this standard, there are a few special features that are the true definition of luxury, one being this fantastic sauna and wetroom combination. The benefits of saunas have been enjoyed for thousands of years (though the saunas may not have looked quite like this back then), and they show no signs of going out of fashion. Being located right next to the sea, the occupants have the opportunity to go for a cold and brisk dip before returning to a toasty sauna for an ultimate mind and body relaxation experience – bliss!

The beautiful view!

It would be a shame not to include this shot of the beautiful seaside view, captured from the first floor balcony. This is what the lucky occupants get to wake up to every morning, and we can imagine it's enough to put you in a good mood from the get go!
