During the summer season, there is little that can be done to avoid the heat outside and sometimes the best option seems to just stay at home. Enduring the heat during the day is not so serious but when the heat intensifies then it could be difficult to relax and sleep.

In homify we want to do our bit and try to help you make the hot summer nights more bearable. We have gathered some tips to keep you sleeping soundly in the bedroom.

Cheats for the fan

In homes without air conditioning, the first option that we often think of to cool ourselves from the heat is to buy a fan. Remember that it should only be turned on when necessary if we do not want the engine to warm the room. If the ceiling fan is not enough add a stand fan to work both at once. If it is still too little, place an ice bucket in front of the appliance so that the air cools down when it passes through it.

Insulation foam for the walls

Cement provides a cooler interior for the home compared to wood. But, if in case you are building a house made of wood, then don't forget to add insulation foam inside the wall partitions and the ceiling. this will help ward of the tropical heat by a great amount.

White curtains

Curtains are important. Unless your house does not have blinds or shutters, choose  light-colored curtains such as white that are lightweight to keep the space well-ventilated while still providing some shade to make help cool the hot room. Dark textiles easily absorb heat and warm the room.

Wet the floor and open the windows

At night comes the time to open the windows. If your curtains are too thick, get a mosquito net to be safe from annoying insects and sleep without interruption. After opening the windows scrub/mop/spray the floor of the room, only with water, before bed and if you have a terrace do the same with your pavement. This way you can lower the temperature of your home by a couple of degrees.

Sleeping in the basement

If despite applying these tips your bedroom still feels like a sauna, you have to take drastic measures. If you live in a single-family house or in a duplex with a nice basement, then you may opt to sleep there. Take inspiration in the design of the photograph and use it to help make the space more comfortable. You can place a sofa bed and use this space as a temporary bedroom.
