Nothing screams 'luxury' quite like a custom-built swimming pool.

As the weather across Malaysia steadily heats up for summer, people start to find themselves longing for a cool, quiet poolside retreat where they can swim and soak up the sunshine in the privacy of their own back garden.

Unfortunately, an at-home swimming pool isn't quite within everyone's reach (we wish!). However, we can dream, and those of us who are working towards the goal of a beautiful pool can be inspired by homify's top 13!

A fluid interior

Let's start this list off with a bang! This incredible swimming pool was designed by the Singapore architecture firm Hyla to be the pinnacle of modern opulence.

Half indoors, half out, the residents can dive straight in to the turquoise water from the well-lit decking. A spiral staircase takes you to the upper floors, and verdant potted plants line the walls.

Pretty in pink

A gorgeous rosy glow illuminates this Mexican terrace, and the well-lit windows and outdoor seating area means that you don't have to stop swimming when night falls!

The bold pink walls contrast delightfully with the aqua green kidney shaped pool, while wrought iron handrails and black window frames give this secluded swimming spot an extra edge.

Fun to play

An ideal solution for parents who don't want to commit to a swimming pool. This small courtyard pool is tranquil and picturesque, while also acting as a fun, safe space for the kids to play.

Large French doors frame the pool, and a small tree is planted in the middle among a bed of rocks. The white walls are water-resistant, so the little ones can splash around as much as they like.

Dusky drama

With recessed lighting dotted around the exterior of the building, this vivid blue pool seems to be reflecting the stars above.

It might not be the biggest pool on our list, but it certainly is one of the most luxurious. A sprawling terrace allows the family to eat and converse late into the night, and rustic wooden sun loungers counteract the hyper-modern architecture in a stylish yet subtle way.

Nordic majesty

Set against the dramatic backdrop of the jagged Norwegian coastline, this seaside home just had to include an outdoor pool – after all, those Northern seas aren't always very warm!

Both the house and the pool terrace lean heavily on rustic influences – the aim of Jarmund/Vigsnæs AS Arkitekter was to make the home blend into its natural surroundings. The pool manages to assimilate, too – it's hard to tell where the sea begins.

A pool in the sky

Why waste your roof space? This amazing modern roof terrace would be bliss even without this small and sweet swimming pool.

Overlooking the bustling streets of Madrid, this glorious pool provides a perfect vantage point for watching the sun set over one of Europe's most vibrant cities.

Blue and green

Infinity pools will never go out of style, and this is one of the best. Built on a small hill, the residents of this Brazilian home must feel like they are floating above the trees whenever they take to the water.

Modern and minimal

This crisp white poolside is all about clean lines and minimalist design. Enclosed within strong walls and flourishing palm trees, the water appears almost opalescent due to the well-placed lighting within the pool.

The glowing living room is open to the pool and invites you in. Meanwhile, four sun loungers are laid out on a stretch of terrace – perfect for pool parties!

On top of the world

Could there be a better location for a luxury swimming pool? This clifftop marvel looks out over the deep blue sea, and features a central deck that is wide enough for family and friends to gather and relax.

The pool itself is also very large – the deck doesn't encroach upon swimming space. The only thing that's missing is an ice cream seller in the middle!

Ethereal glamour

This could be the setting of a haunting romance movie. The drama of the rolling clouds above is reflected in the long rectangular pool, and blends seamlessly with the dove grey concrete house and terrace.

Mountains and moors encircle the property – we can imagine a modern retelling of Wuthering Heights taking place here!

The city is alive

Look at that view! Night time swims don't get much better than this – a warm turquoise pool, comfy reclining deck chairs and the sprawling lights of Guadalajara glowing beneath. Just add good company and a refreshing cocktail – bliss.

Oriental mystery

This indoor pool may have been designed by Italian architect Francesco Della Femina, but its style definitely leans towards the Oriental.

A melange of textures – rough wood parquet, smooth plaster, and pebble mosaics – give the space depth and intrigue. Plus who could resist that azure blue water?

Fit for a king

Opulence reaches its logical conclusion in this swimming pool – there's a built-in waterfall! Spilling down from an upper storey, the waterfall gently ripples the surface of the pool and provides a fun playspace for kids and adults alike. And when it's time to chill, all one has to do is swim over to the hot tub…
